Fresh New Year

We have another opportunity to achieve our goals. I am not one for the making resolutions. But each new year I set goals for myself. Yes, some of them are back on the list next year. Just like making a to do list for the week, when you get to cross something off, it is a feeling of accomplishment. Yes, I am a list maker.

My husband and I have a few goals for the new year. Thankfully we both have the same goal of being more self-sufficient.

My husband has some health issues and is now unable to be on his feet doing the job he had been doing for 30 years. We are having to adapt to a new way. The plan was for him to continue at his job, and I would eventually work from home.

Part of our goals are to expand our gardens and make them more accessible for him. We are intent on having as much as possible of our meals, snacks, and medicine come from our garden.

Remember these girls from last year? They are doing their part in helping the family be more self-sufficient, lol. They provide us with 10 to 12 pretty eggs each day. So yes, we are learning more egg recipes.

That was one thing from last year that is checked off. We only aimed to get about a half dozen a day. The girls are overachieving.

Here in the south, we have gone from freezing to 75 degrees in just a day or two. Being around all the people sniffling and coughing, I have ended up with a sore throat and sinus issues. I am looking up an old recipe for sore throat. I used it once years ago and it works.

  • Ginger
  • Honey
  • Garlic
  • Lemon juice
  • Pineapple juice

Mix the ginger, honey, garlic, and lemon juice. Heat the mixture and let it cool enough to gargle with. Gargle with the mixture followed by a gargle of the chilled pineapple juice.

The ginger will help with inflammation, it is an antibiotic, antibacterial, antioxidant, and an antiviral.

Honey also has many benefits, one being useful against allergies. For this use it coats, soothes, and sweetens.

Garlic boosts your immune system.

Lemon also has multiple benefits, here the citric acid helps break down the flehm in your throat.

The cold pineapple juice kind clumps the flehm and helps you get it out.

I have to go practice what I have shared and get rid of my sore throat.
